“Oliseh no longer feels safe being in Nigeria. Recall that all through the team’s camping for CHAN 2016 in Abuja, he refused to show up but was the first to hit South Africa for the second phase of camping in Pretoria. After his team lost out of CHAN, he left for Belgium on the excuse that he had to go and continue treatment for his flu. That action speaks volumes about his fears.”
Reacting to the allegation that Oliseh’s life is in danger, NFF spokeman, Ademola Olajire said there is no truth about the rumour.
“Did Oliseh not grow up here in Nigeria, so why would he be afraid of anyone in Nigeria? Agreed that Nigerians are very passionate about football and would castigate any coach that does not produce results but that is not enough for anyone to insinuate that his life is in danger. The reason for his travelling back to Belgium is to continue with his treatment for the flu,” Olajire stated.
It is recalled that coach Sunday Oliseh was flown out to Belgium to see his personal physician as a result of his deteriorating health condition on October 25, 2015.
A close source to the coach at that time was quoted as saying: “As I speak with you now Oliseh has left the Port Harcourt camp of the Super Eagles and has been hurriedly flown to Belgium via Lufthansa. Oliseh’s health condition has really worsened.
“I have never seen Oliseh in this very worrisome health situation like this since about three decades that I have been close to him. I am praying fervently to Almighty God to save him and give him speedy recovery.”
