Chibok Girls Abduction Was Fabricated To Oust Jonathan - Fayose

Ayo Fayose, the governor of Ekiti state, has claimed that the rumour of the abduction of the Chibok girls was mere political fabrication meant to oust ex-president Goodluck Jonathan from the office at all costs.

He has accused the federal government of deceiving Nigerians over the alleged missing schoolgirls, supposing that the All Progressives Congress used the situation to defeat Jonathan.

Fayose said he viewed with delight the advocacy of Oby Ezekwesili-led Bring Back Our Girls group, which has been pressing for the recovery of the missing girls.

“You can’t get what is not missing,” he stated.

Why We’ve Not Sent Buhari 2016 Budget Details – House Of Reps

The chairman House Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has confirmed that the National Assembly did not forward the details of the 2016 Appropriations Bill to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.

He said it was a regular practice of the National Assembly to send details to the president weeks after passing the budget, saying there was nothing abnormal for the president to sign the budget without seeing the details.

Presidency sources stated on Tuesday that Mr. Buhari refused to approve the budget a week after its passage, insisting on seeing its details as passed by the National Assembly.
The National Assembly last week passed a N6.06 trillion 2016 budget, reducing the president’s N6.08 trillion slightly.

Power Outage: Soldiers Invade IBEDC Office, Torture Worker

Workers of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company say they have become fearful in their office after some soldiers attached to the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala Barracks, Abeokuta, Ogun State, allegedly beat up one of them over “poor power” supply.
They told our correspondent that the soldiers, numbering about six and led by one Major Musa, stormed the IBEDC substation – Olumo business hub, Rounder – on March 6 and met one of them, Salau Adekunle, on duty.
They were said to have descended on Adekunle, the substation’s distribution officer, with horse whips.
Our correspondent learnt that presently on the average, the barracks and environs got five hours supply daily, which falls short of the soldiers’ expectation.
The victim, whose back bore effects of the flogging, said he ended up in a hospital because of the beating.
He said, “I was on duty on that day around 12pm when the soldiers came into our office with horse whips. They told me to get up and without explanation, they started beating me. I had to go to the hospital for treatment. I informed our head office and it promised to do something about it.
“They had come earlier then to threaten us. We reported at our head office and the head of the barracks was petitioned. They complained that they did not get supply regularly, but it is not our fault. They said they would be the ones to determine the number of hours they want power. We told them it was not possible, but they didn’t want to listen.”
Adekunle’s colleague, who does not want his name in print, said they had explained to the soldiers that the outage was caused by a reduction in the power generation nationwide, adding that the explanation fell on deaf ears.
He said the unit officials had received threats from the barracks authorities, making them to be afraid whenever they were on duty. He stated that the barracks had power for between eight to 15 hours everyday until recently when power generation dropped nationwide.
He said, “Electricity supply is divided into three levels – generation, transmission and distribution. This implies that generation affects transmission, which in turn affects distribution. The relationship between them is directly proportional. If there is less sufficient generated power, then there will be less power at our own side to distribute to the community, including the barracks. Before now, there was supply for at least eight hours and at times, 15 hours.
“Electricity generation has reduced from 4517MW to 2800MW and now to over 1500MW. All this is known and understood by the soldiers in the barracks, but they pretend as if they do not know; that is why they now get five hours’ supply per day. Initially, the soldiers blamed us. Soon, it graduated to threats. They once arrested us and took us to their barracks and detained us for hours; l was a victim.”
Another official said they had been living in fear since the incident happened, adding that threats from the soldiers had intensified.
“They (the soldiers) said it would not be threats again, but killing. Major Musa said he would send soldiers we don’t know. We spoke out because we cannot wait for them to kill us,” he said.
Attempts to speak to the spokesperson in the brigade proved abortive. However, a soldier attached to the brigade confirmed the attack to our correspondent on the telephone.
The soldier, who did not want to be named because he was not authorised to speak to the press, said, “I am aware of it (the attack), but I was not around when it happened. Power supply is not regular in the barracks. We used to have power for eight to 10 hours.”
Major Musa, however, denied leading soldiers to attack the electricity workers.
He said, “All the information is false. You can come to the barracks to get the correct information.”

See Why APC Failed Woefully In Rivers State Re-runs

Hopes by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, to clinch some seats in the just concluded state and national assemblies polls, has turned out catastrophic for the party.

So far, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, has been declared winner in eleven state constituencies namely; Port Harcourt Akuku Toru 1, Omuma, Degema, Ahoada East 1, Ahaoda East 2, Emohua, Akuku – Toru 2, Obio- Akpor 1, Obio-Akpor 2 and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni. The APC secured the Opobo constituency.

The election that had generated so much tension in the state was characterized by widespread violence, diversion of electoral materials and intimidation. Hence, the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to suspend polls in: Khana, Bonny, Gokana, Andoni, Tai, Eleme, Etche and Asari-Toru local government areas.

FG To Tax Voice Calls, Sms, MMS, Data And Pay Tv At 9%

Marketing Communication experts have condemned the proposed communications tax bill before the Eight National Assembly, describing the bill as evidence that the Federal Government “isn’t sensitive to the plight of the people”.

If the proposed communications tax bill is passed to law, telecom's subscribers in Nigeria may be facing tougher times in the months ahead. The bill, entitled ‘Communication Service Tax Bill (“CST” or the “Bill”) 2015’, seeks to enforce, charge and collect communication service tax (CST) on all electronic communication services at nine per cent which will be borne by subscribers.

Subscribers’ data released monthly by the telecom's industry regulator, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the current industry’s Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) provided by the operators, indicated that the Federal Government may be reaping over N20 billion monthly from Nigerian subscribers if the bill is enacted into law.

The Smartest Family In Britain Today, Is This Nigerian Family from Edo

Twelve year-old twins, Peter and Paula Imafidon, are black children from Waltham Forest in northeast London. Nicknamed “the Wonder Twins,” Peter and Paula are Great Britain’s highest achievers. At 9-years-old they made history as the youngest children in British history to attend high school.

The children became the youngest to ever pass the University of Cambridge’s advanced mathematics exam after participating in the Excellence in Education program. They set world records when they passed the A/AS-level math papers. Peter Imafidon, who is also a 100m and 400m relay champ in London, has said that he would like to serve as Prime Minister one day and his sister Paula, a county champion in rugby, would like to teach math. Both students are musicians.

The twins joined the ranks of their gifted siblings, Anne-Marie Imafidon, who was the pioneering child among the young genii. Now 26 years old, Anne-Marie spoke six languages and graduated from high school at age 10. In 2003, when she was only 13, she was granted a British scholarship to study Mathematics at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. And at 17, Anne-Marie obtained her Masters Degree from Oxford University.

Anne-Marie was the youngest person to pass the A-level computing exam. Just last year she was called a “serial world record breaker” in the September 2011 edition of “Higher Education Digest.” Anne-Marie has mentioned that she believes in mentoring children to help them succeed. She is involved in the S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) program to help fulfill the need for math and science female leaders. She is currently working in a high-level position at an international investment bank in the United Kingdom.

At 11 years old, Christina Imafidon (now 22) was the youngest student in history to attend a British university – the United Kingdom University. Christina is now working as an intern with the Citigroup Corporation as well as conducting research on mathematics with Oxford University.

Fifteen year-old Samantha Imafidon had passed two high school-level mathematics and statistics exams at age 6. She became the youngest girl in the UK to attend secondary school at the age of 9. Samantha was the sibling who mentored the twins to pass their own math secondary school test when they were also 6 years old. She is a gold level champion in the 100m and 200m relays.

Dr. Chris Imafidon and Ann Imafidon, their parents, raised the children with a guided discipline. The father emigrated from Edo State, Nigeria to London over 30 years ago. He is currently working as a renowned scholar and international education consultant to several governments. He also serves as a mentor and coach to American students at varios academic levels using Skype and web technology.

His family has been used as a model to improve scholarship in Europe and Asia. He strongly believes that anyone can achieve what he has achieved with his family through a specific model for education. In his own family, if one child had a reading assignment, there was a communal effort. “If you really want a child to learn anything, find out the best way that child learns,” says Imafidon. “Every human being has a unique way of learning.”

You Are Jobless: FG To #Istandwithbuhari Group And Sponsors

The presidency has formally dissociated itself from the #Istandwithbuhari advocacy group and has demanded that the group immediately stop claiming any alliance with the Buhari Administration.

A statement by presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, Friday, said the presidency also demanded that the persons behind the controversial #Istandwithbuhari group should stop using President Muhammadu Buhari’s name and that of his wife, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari to promote themselves and their activities.

“Among other reasons, we have found it necessary to distance the Presidency from the #Istandwithbuhari group because its premature and ostentatious celebration of the present administration’s achievements is totally inconsistent with President Buhari’s philosophy of service with humility.

“While the present administration has indeed recorded significant successes in its priority areas of improving security across the nation, ending the Boko Haram insurgency, curbing official corruption and revamping Nigeria’s economy, President Buhari is well aware that his government still has a lot of national challenges to overcome.

“The President prefers to give his fullest attention to addressing those challenges without the unsolicited and unwelcome distraction of untimely praise-singing from groups with dubious and questionable motives,” the statement said.

This is a story that would send minds racing, an agonizing tale that would leave everyone contemplating what it feels like to be seconds away from death.
A man has told Daily Sun how his brother perished in the Mediterranean Sea, as two of them journeyed illegally to Europe in a rickety boat.

All that is left now is the two of us…

What we will become tomorrow, starts from tonight. Our life is no longer the same. There was a day you put on one red dress, you looked so beautiful in it. That Day I wanted to just touch you! We were in the Cinema and I was so tempted. I wanted to just take you inside the toilet and kiss you but I couldn’t. Guess what? Now I have you forever, I can do that everyday.

We Will Not Be Able To Keep Our 1 Million Housing Units Promise – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that APC’s promise of providing one million housing units may be impossible.

The President said that in order to make the promise come true, the Federal Government must be able to build 250,000 housing units while the 22 states being governed by the party also build another 250,000 housing units.

He added that foreign investors together with big construction companies will then be encouraged to provide the balance.

Buhari made the revelation on Monday at the opening of the National Economic Council’s economic retreat held inside the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said, “Some estimates put Nigeria’s housing deficit at about 16million units.“In our successful campaign to win the general elections last year, our party, the APC, promised to build a million housing units a year.

“This will turn out to be a very tall order unless: the Federal Government builds 250,000 units. The 22 APC states together manage another 250,000 units.

“We invite foreign investors together with local domiciled big construction companies to enter into commercial housing building to pick up the rest.”

Buhari listed the three most frequent public concerns brought to his attention in the housing sector to include severe shortage of housing; high rents and unaffordable prices for prospective buyers especially middle and low-income earners.

He added that he is aware that red tape, corruption and plain public service inefficiency lead to long delays in obtaining ownership of title documents while there are no long term funding sources for mortgage purposes.

According to him, while these hurdles are not easy to scale, his administration must find solutions to the housing deficit.

He suggested that the retreat could start by looking at the laws.

He said relevant laws should be reviewed to make the process of acquiring statutory right of occupancy shorter, less cumbersome and less costly.

He also said court procedures for mortgages cases should make enforcement more efficient while Ministry of Works and Housing should upgrade its computerisation of title registration system for greater efficiency.

Buhari was also of the opinion that achieving affordable housing for all Nigerians will require the development of strong and enduring mortgage institutions with transparent processes and procedures.

He also said when fully operational, the Mortgage Re-financing Company should ensure adequate support for mortgage financing.

Man Finds Huge Python Under His Vehicle Hood (Pic & Video)

A Zimbabwean man was met with a difficulty recently when he found a large python inside his car’s bonnet.
The man – who isn’t named – walks cautiously round to the front of a Zimbabwe-registered truck on a dirt track and finds the creature coiled on top of the engine.
However, instead of him to find a stick and kill the snake or shove it off, he grabbed the reptile near its head and, with help from another man, extricated it from the engine and dropped it in the thick grass by the side of the road.

The snake is writhing as it is carried but cannot bite the man because it is held on its neck.
From inside the car come the excited voices of children.
“Daddy, no, no: Don’t put that thing in the car!” shouts one.
Others said: “It’s spitting… it’s a rattlesnake” and then, hardly surprisingly, others screamed: “Oh, that is a monster.”

Cameroon Sentences 89 Boko Haram Suspects To Death By Firing

Cameroon has condemned 89 suspected Boko Haram operatives to death for “terrorism” since the start of 2015, a judicial source said Friday.

The sentences come after Cameroon adopted a controversial anti-terror law in December 2014 allowing capital punishment for those found guilty of carrying out terror attacks or complicity in terrorism.

Those convicted were mostly arrested on Cameroon’s border with Nigeria, the birthplace of the extremist group that has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) group.

Cameroon already had the death penalty for murder, but there have been no executions since the mid-1980s.

Nigeria Court Jails Russians, Japenese, 10 Other Foreigners For Oil Smuggling

Nigerian court on Friday jailed 14 foreign sailors from Russia, Ukraine, Philippine and Japan between two and five years for unlawful dealing in petroleum products in the country.

The federal high court in Lagos found the suspects guilty of illegally transporting 1,738 tonnes of crude oil and some 4,500 tonnes of petrol, also called gasoline, in their vessel MT Anukpet Emerald.
Judge Ibrahim Buba sentenced 11 of the 14 foreigners to two years' jail or alternatively pay a fine of two million naira (10,000 dollars) each.

The remaining three -- all Russians -- were given five years each in absentia without an option of fine for jumping bail.

The court also ordered that the vessel and the seized petroleum products be forfeited to the Nigerian government.

The Nigerian navy arrested the sailors and the vessel in February 2015 and handed the case to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for prosecution.

It was not immediately clear if the products onboard the vessel were to be taken out of Nigeria and if so, to which country they were headed.

Convictions for oil smuggling are common but in most cases the offenders get away with a fine.

The nation appears to be helpless on the activities of the Fulani herdsmen, causing incessant clashes and killings in several rural and semi urban areas, Lagos is having its own share of this misdemeanour, as they take their cattle through the Bus Rapid Transport, BRT lane along Ikorodu road, Lagos, constituting traffic hazards to motorists, BRT buses and other road users.

He also stated that there was the need to call the attention of the government and relevant agencies, particularly, the BRT monitoring team to put an end to this ugly development. Hon. Wahab Jimoh who represents Apapa Constituency I reiterated that the Fulani are also grazing at Mobil Road in Apapa and they are also slaughtering cows in an unauthorized places in the area. “There is the need to use the necessary law to penalize them.”

Cote D’ivoire Displaces Nigeria To Emerge Africa’s Top Investor Destination

The difficult patch that Nigeria, the largest economy in Africa, is going through does not seem to be abating.
According to a new Nielsen report which provides a ranking of business prospects for leading markets in sub-Saharan Africa, Nigeria is no longer the top investor destination on the continent.
In its place, Cote d’Ivoire has risen to the top of the rankings.

Nielsen Holdings PLC is a global performance management company that provides a comprehensive understanding of what consumers watch and buy.
Nielsen’s Watch segment provides media and advertising clients with Total Audience measurement services for all devices on which content – video, audio and text – is consumed.

Buoyed by a fast-growing economy and a lengthy period of political stability highlighted by successful elections last year, Cote d’Ivoire is now regarded as a prime destination for investment in Africa.

Although that status could now be affected following a recent attack by Al Qaeda in the Islamic Mahgreb (AQIM).
Having been ranked as the top investor destination at the start of 2015, Nigeria has now fallen to fourth on the rankings. The ominous slide fits the narrative of Nigeria’s slowing economic growth amid a global slump in commodity prices.
